Category Descriptions
The nominees in each category will ultimately compete for the award. As such, delegates should make their selections of nominees that meet the criteria for the actual award. Note that these Awards are presented to honor those individuals who have excelled as Haitian music performers during the eligibility period.
BEST HAITIAN MUSIC PRODUCER
This Award recognizes a Producer who produced an album that was released during the eligibility period. This award acknowledges...
BEST BAND/ARTIST MANAGER
This Award recognizes a Manager that oversees the career of a Band, group, or artist. A
Manager helps with determining decisions related to career moves, bookings, promotions, business deals, recording contracts, etc.
BEST NEW GREOUP
This award is defined as an Act, composed of three (3) or more people, all of whom normally perform together. Any group in part by incorporating the name of a solo artist in the name of the group or duo is not permitted to stand for nomination in this category. One Award is presented to the Act. At least 50% of the Group must be Haitian or Haitian decent. The group must have come out during the eligibility period.
BEST RAP KREYOL/HIP HOP GROUP/ARTIST
This Award is given to a Rap Kreyol/Hip Hop music group. It is based on musical contents, styles, lyrics, and originality. It is different from what is considered mainstream Compas.
MUSIC VIDEO OF THE YEAR
This Award is defined as a video of a Haitian artist(s) released during the qualifying time period. It displays superior quality, innovation, and production. The Music Video of the Year award is given to the artist or Haitian producer(s).
BEST BAND LEADER OF THE YEAR
This Award recognizes a band leader for the ability to maintain a professional attitude on stage and is respected by musicians in the group and others in the industry. The band leader must be both a vocal and musical leader. One who helps management with determining decisions related to bookings, promotions, business deals, recording contracts, etc.
MALE ARTIST OF THE YEAR
This Award is based upon individual performance, either on record or in person. Impact may be defined by touring, airplay, and sales.
FEMALE ARTIST OF THE YEAR
This Award is based upon individual performance, either on record or in person. Impact may be defined by touring, airplay, collaboration, and sales.
BAND OF THE YEAR (FULL BAND FORMAT)
This award is designed primarily to recognize full instrumental bands on stage. One Award is presented to the winning band. Bands will be judged on complexity and uniformity of performance as well as numeric symbiosis of sound. The following requirements for this category are:

BAND OF THE YEAR (mini band format)
This award is designed primarily to recognize mini bands on stage. Bands will be judged on performance as well as sound. One Award is presented to the winning band. The following requirements for this category are:

BEST MALE VOCALIST
This Award is defined as the Male Vocalist who has made the most significant impact, exhibiting exceptional vocal talents, during the eligibility period. Impact may be defined by touring, airplay, and sales.
BEST FEMALE VOCALIST
This Award is defined as the Female Vocalist who has made the most significant impact, exhibiting exceptional vocal talents, during the eligibility period. Impact may be defined by touring, airplay, and sales.
BEST RACINE ARTIST/GROUP
This Award recognizes traditional or contemporary Racine styles that through innovations and originality, is different from music considered mainstream Compas.
BEST HAITIAN JAZZ
This Award recognizes traditional Jazz styles, but through innovations and originality, is different from music considered mainstream Compas.
SONG OF THE YEAR
This Award is for a song from a newly released album. The Album must have been released during the eligibility period. The song should be judged on all aspects including, but not limited to, artistic performance, production. Impact may be defined by radio airplay, or influence.
ALBUM OF THE YEAR
This Award is for an album as a whole unit. An Album is defined as a project containing no less than six (6) tracks and can be a special project or commemorative package. The Album must have been released during the eligibility period. The Album should be judged on all aspects including, but not limited to, artistic performance, production, design, and art layout. Impact may be defined by radio airplay, sales or influence. One Award is presented to the winning act.
