Media Guidelines
|
Still photographers and radio and television crews are permitted in the Hall, provided they are:
- Here in connection with an Avery Fisher Hall event or publicity for such an event.
- On assignment from a specific news organization, such as a newspaper, magazine, network, or station (freelancers and agency photographers without an assignment are not permitted); or pre-approved as the event archival still photographer.
- Holding verifiable press credentials.
- Not disturbing performers or patrons with unnecessary noise or movement.
- Photography or filming for use on the World Wide Web will only be allowed for web sites that have a newsstand or broadcast news presence and would be granted access under the provisions above.
- TV and radio coverage is normally permitted for general news and entertainment programs only, not for use in documentaries. Arrangements for documentary, recording (archival or commercial), or any other use must be negotiated in advance through our Booking Department.
There is no backstage access for press (photography, news videotaping or news radio recording) at Avery Fisher Hall. |
PHOTOGRAPHY
- Each event is allowed one (1) archival photographer, who must be approved by Lincoln Center Management.
- Unless seats have been killed and a press area designated, press photographers will be required to shoot from the viewing booth in the front side of the First Tier seating area, approximately 35 feet from center stage. A telephoto lens and tripod are recommended.
- Photographers attending your event must be completely self-contained (no power or additional lighting required). All photographers and crews will be required to bring in only the necessary gear and may not bring assistants or personal items into the theatre.
- Photographers working in the viewing booth are requested to coordinate shutter releases with audience reaction/applause times.
- If photographing from within the audience chamber, the taking of pictures during a performance is limited to the time between musical selections only. Photographs may be taken during musical selections only if the camera is “blimped,” i.e., soundless.
- Flash photography is rarely permitted except in very special circumstances. In order to use a flash, the consent of the artists and the producer is necessary.
- Photographers working outside the auditorium, but still inside the building in an area where additional non-stage lighting is required may use only a self-powered, single-lamp lighting source. The use of any other lighting source, self-contained or requiring a “plug-in,” must be arranged for in advance and may result in fees. This includes battery chargers for flash units.
- At no time will photographers be allowed on stage.

RADIO
- The radio news crew must be escorted by the Lincoln Center Press Representative at all times.
- The radio news reporter must represent a regularly scheduled news or entertainment broadcast program and identify the program and the date and time when the news story is slated to be broadcast.
- Unless seats have been killed and a press area designated, radio crews will be required to record from the viewing booth in the front side of the First Tier seating area, approximately 35 feet from center stage.
- The total cumulative amount of taping time is limited to thirty (30) minutes with total cumulative broadcast time limited to three (3) minutes. This time limit includes ALL footage taken anywhere on Avery Fisher Hall premises throughout the course of the event (e.g. rehearsal, performance, lobby, etc.). Lincoln Center Press Representatives will keep timings and inform Lincoln Center Management on duty of the taping time used by the crew.
- Normally permissible equipment is limited to a self-contained battery-operated recorder. Any variance from this must be approved in advance by Lincoln Center Management to avoid additional fees.
- Crews attending your event must be completely self-contained (no power, including battery chargers).
- A plug-in (including battery chargers) will result in additional labor fees.
- If you want to provide a sound feed to news crews, there may be additional stage labor charges. This work must be coordinated prior to the event.
- During a rehearsal, a radio news reporter has flexibility to move close to the stage and around the house, with the permission of the artists and Lincoln Center Management. At no time will radio reporters be allowed on stage.
- At no time will Anyone be allowed on stage.
